FAQ – International mobility

It is not possible to transfer from another medical school to UdeM. However, if you meet the general eligibility requirements, you can apply for admission like any other applicant. Depending on your residency status at the time of application, your application will be classified either as a French-speaking applicant from outside Quebec or as an international applicant. Your application will be evaluated according to the specific criteria for your category. If you are accepted, the Admissions Committee will decide at which level of the program you will be admitted.

The evaluation of your academic record will be based on all your university transcripts, including your pre-medical and medical studies, as applicable.

It depends on the program and level you wish to enter. For undergraduate programs, including the MD program, the number of places available for international students is limited. However, graduate research training programs are much more flexible in admitting international students.

If you’re a foreign-trained healthcare professional looking to refresh your health sciences training or qualify for a licence to practice in Quebec, our Faculty offers several options:

• Occupational Therapy Qualification Program
• Qualifying Diploma in Physiotherapy

There are a few steps to take before you can enter any of these programs, however, including an evaluation of your file by the appropriate Quebec professional order. To find out how to apply, see this section of the admissions guide.

If you are an international medical graduate seeking a licence to practice in Quebec, the Collège des médecins du Québec (CMQ) will determine your eligibility and oversee the licencing process. The CMQ provides a number of options for medical graduates from outside Quebec: obtaining a regular licence to practice, a restricted licence, or applying for recognition of the equivalency of your medical diploma, which may give you access to postgraduate training. If your medical degree is not recognized, you can also apply to the UdeM for admission to an undergraduate MD program.

You can use this search tool, included in our Admissions and Programs Guide, to determine the equivalency of your training. Enter your diploma and/or the country in which it was issued.

Since tuition fees vary depending on your status in Canada and the level of study, please use the Tuition Calculator on the Registrar’s Office website.

Note that the results are estimates and do not include additional costs such as insurance or transportation.
